Jamie's Computers

Jamie’s Computers is the computer recycling social enterprise arm of The Society of St James; Southampton’s largest homeless charity, providing housing, care and support to homeless and vulnerable people. They offer a free professional and secure IT disposal service to businesses and individuals. They refurbish donated computers and make them available for reuse whilst anything that cannot be reused is recycled. They are in Southampton so are local. Recommended!

TerraCycle: Outsmart Waste

TerraCycle’s purpose is to eliminate the idea of waste. We do this by creating national recycling systems for the previously non-recyclable. The process starts by offering collect programmes (many of them free) to collect your waste and then convert the collected waste into a wide range of products and materials. Brilliant!

From interactive theatre shows to peer learning programmes Waste Watch ensure the learning experiences they provide are fun and stimulating. They also offer a range of free teaching and learning resources.

The Pod - EDF Energy's programme for greener schools

The Pod is an interactive website for teachers and Eco-Coordinators. It provides high quality cross curricular teachings resources, activities and games as well as a place to share ideas and showcase your work. The Pod works in collaboration with Eco-Schools England to ensure all activities will help a school progress through the Eco-Schools process.

How we make stuff

This website, developed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, explores how we can learn from living systems and rethink the way we design, make and use our stuff. Recycling Box

Sadly a site called 'Each One Counts' has been discontinued. This was an inkjet cartridge and mobile phone recycling scheme that helps charities raise funds without costing schools a penny. It has been replaced by Recycling Box.

Freegle

Don't throw it away - give it away! Freegle is an email list hosted on Yahoo! Groups that allows you to give stuff away when you need to get rid of it but don’t want to throw it in the bin. Or save something from landfill by asking for it; perhaps someone has just what you need that they were about to throw away.

Roots & Shoots

The Roots & Shoots program is run by The Jane Goodall Institute (jgi) and is about making positive change happen through empowering young people with the inspiration and tools to make a difference - for our communities, for animals and for the environment.

Recycool

Recycool is a recycling and fundraising programme for schools, with over 5000 schools in the UK and Ireland taking part. Money is donated to your school for every empty printer cartridge, mobile phone and PDA they recycle - so the more you can collect, the more cash your school can raise!

Music Magpie

A website for recycling unwanted CDs and DVDs. Music Magpie will send you money directly in exchange for your goods, or donate it to your charity of choice.

United Shoe Recycling Company

United Shoe Recycling Company offer schools a free shoe recycling service, and will pay schools £5 for every full bag of wearable shoes donated. United Shoe Recycling provide schools with free recycling bins, and will collect your shoes for free .

IT Schools Africa

IT Schools Africa is a registered charity with a mission to transform IT education in Africa. They collect old computers in the UK, refurbish them and distribute them at low-cost to schools in Africa.

Every Can Counts

Every Can Counts aims to make it easier to recycle your drink cans and make a difference. They have a selection of downloadable materials available for you to set up and promote your own Every Can Counts scheme.
